Since 1930, WAFCO, the manufacturer of All-American pressure canners, has been offering a selection of pressure canners/pressure cookers, a product deemed to provide the best and safest method for home canning.  Presto began even earlier, producing a commercial pressure canner at their inception in 1905.  The fact is, the USDA recommends pressure canning as the only safe way to can meat, fish, poultry and vegetables.  These pressure canner/cookers are available in a full range of sizes -- big enough for preparing large quantities of food and pressure cooking inexpensive meat cuts to juicy tenderness quickly and easily.  They are, indeed, dual purpose appliances -- pressure canners and pressure cookers.

It should be noted that when selecting a pressure canner that there is a difference between physical capacity and canning capacity.  Canning capacity is based upon the number of canning jars, either in pint or quart sizes, that the unit is capable of holding.  That calculation is based upon the physical dimensions of a standard mason jar.
