Masticating is chewing, and that is exactly the process by which a masticating juicer works. Using a single gear or auger, the masticating juicer "chews" the fruit or vegetable to a pulp before squeezing the juice from it. Though slower than a centrifugal juicer, a masticating juicer does less harm to the vitamin and nutrient content of the product being processed, and is generally more efficient in the quantities of juice that can be extracted.
