Damaged in Shipping

Should Your Package Arrive Damaged

LIABILITY.  All UPS and similar shipments are insured for damage and for packages gone missing while in the possession of the shipper. Storeitfoods.com is not responsible for any physical damage which may occur to products during the shipping process.  We are also NOT responsible for any loss or damage incurred due to packages being left at your doorstep by UPS or other delivery personnel.  Though unlikely, these things can happen, and if it does you should immediately contact your local shipping office.

The general policy for handling damaged shipments is as follows:

Any damaged or short shipments must be reported within 48 hours of their receipt. For damaged shipments, the original box and packing materials MUST be held until UPS or USPS deems them unnecessary for claim purposes. if not reported within 48 hours, our various manufacturers and suppliers have told us that they are unable to initiate a claim and the package is deemed as received in acceptable condition.

Our goal is to ensure you receive your shipments in the condition they left our supplier's warehouse - brand new. All of our suppliers take great care in packaging your items and double box, add peanuts, bubble wrap and other void fill to ensure your order arrives intact. We do understand that percentages tell us that some damaged packages are unavoidable no matter how well the item was packaged. When damage does occur, it is your responsibility to provide the carriers with the necessary supporting documentation and evidence to support the damage claim. This may include digital photos in lieu of inspection requirements in order to speed the process.

Lately, however, many are reporting seeing a high frequency where the recipient of the item is disposing of all of the original packaging. While we understand there may be exceptions to this, it has become the norm. In 100% of these cases, when UPS picks up the package and performs their inspection, you should not be surprised to find yourself losing the damage claim. As you would expect, it is vital to provide proof that the damage occurred during shipping. In many cases where a replaceable part is damaged, it is faster and easier to simply send a new part. In cases like this, the recipient must still hold on to all of the original packaging in order for UPS to inspect it.

It is generally the policy to insure 100% of our packages so that it is possible to hold the carriers responsible for damages during shipment. We do not know of any of our manufacturers who will not accept full responsibility if they send a package that was not adequately protected by UPS standard. However, in order to accept this responsibility, they need your help to be equally responsible in helping to prove that the damage did in fact occur during shipping. Absent of the original packaging, there is no way to substantiate this.

You must be aware, in cases where you have disposed of the original packaging that the item was shipped in, up to and including all of the original packaging material used to ship the item (outer double box, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, etc.), it will be impossible to successfully submit a claim and there will be no further recourse available. Should a claim be submitted and denied due to the original packaging being disposed of by you as the recipient, neither you nor we will be able to work with the manufacturer or their distributor to provide a refund on the cost of the item. When a damage claim is denied, the item is returned to the source in the condition it was tendered to the carrier. We have been informed that  items coming back in the retail box by itself. No double box, no packaging material, no original shipping label. Understandably, UPS and USPS denies these claims outright, as most retail boxes are not shippable boxes.
