Perhaps Winnie the Pooh had it right.
Honey, the product of that industrious, little insect, the bee; may, indeed, may be something that we should all be making a more important part of our diet. As a food source, it has been around for millenia. As a medicine, it has been in use for just about as long. The ancients have prescribed it as a cure for all sorts of illnesses and maladies including baldness, eye diseases, constipation and indigestion. In some cultures it has even seen use as a contraceptive. Many scientists no longer smile condescendingly at these folk remedies, for they are finding that honey does indeed have some medicinal properties and, in that regard, needs no longer be relegated only to the realms of holistic medicine.
Honey is a natural sweetener and can be used as a healthy substitute for cane and beet sugars. It stores well and actually inhibits bacterial growth. This makes it a wonderful food storage item, and if the proponents are right, a health promoting one as well.
Cinnamon, too, is receiving increasing attention from modern researchers who are contending more and more that this well known spice may merit a place in the medicine cabinet just as much as in the spice rack. Studies at the University of California, for instance, have been paying close attention to the effects of cinnamon on diabetic mice, and the results have been most encouraging.
The following article touches upon the health benefits of both cinnamon and honey and may well make for a very interesting and informative read. Unfortunately, the author is unknown, and it has been received by Store-It Foods without confirmation of the veracity of the scientific studies cited.
Facts on Cinnamon & Honey
I made some decaf coffee with one tablespoon honey and a quarter teaspoon cinnamon with milk. My feet got warmer...honest. It does seem to work. They've been cold for four months. Also I had tried putting honey on an infected finger last year and I could see it improving as I watched. It's a keeper. I believe that we have all we need to heal ourselves...we just don't know it. Our grandmothers gave us tea and honey with milk for colds when we were kids. It is used in most cough syrups.
