In a novel approach to food and nutrition, Victoria Boutenko has come forth with a new book about greens and green smoothies containing exciting new information. The author approaches human nutrition from a new angle, comparing the human diet with that of chimpanzees. Her theory is that with chimpanzees sharing an estimated 99.4% of genes with humans, an examination of their dietary habits would have a fair amount of relevance for humans. The most glaring difference, as reported by Ms. Boutenko, as she shares the results of her studies, is that chimpanzees consume significantly more green leaves than humans.
Based on these observations, Victoria has developed a series of green smoothie recipes that enable anyone to consume the necessary amount of greens in a palatable way. "Green for Life" provides the recipes and the reasoning, which is based on the fact that smoothie making permits blending, and blending allows the use of what the author terms "very necessary insoluble fiber, which is essential for healing and maintenance of our elimination systems." Simple juicing removes the pulp in which this fiber is contained, making it a somewhat inferior method for ingesting these greens.
