Generates a very hot spark
As long as your tinder is dry, the magnesium fire starter can be used to strike a flame in all kinds of weather. This is the perfect compact and lightweight fire starter for camping, emergency kits and more. To use your magnesium firestarter simply scrape a very small pile of magnesium shavings under your already prepared dry tinder and with a few scrapes on the built-in sparking rod (see illustration), you have a tiny, but very hot inferno that will ignite your tinder- even in poor weather conditions! The tinder itself can even be slightly damp, although you must make sure that it is not actually wet. Hint: Carry some balls of cotton with you as well. They make for very good tinder. They are also extremely light weight, making them great candidates for inclusion in your emergency survival or 72 hour kit.
